Eggnog French Toasts are full of flavors. When they are being cooked, you can smell how good they are. That you like to devour it as soon as they are cooked. Oh! They are at their best while still warm.

What is Eggnog French Toast?

Basically, it’s french toast. But what makes it become eggnog french toast is… your right! The eggnog!

Eggnog is made up of milk, sugar, eggs, and alcoholic beverages like bourbon, rum, whiskey, or brandy. Cinnamon or nutmeg are sometimes added, too. It is also called egg milk punch. It is usually served during the Christmas season starting at the end of October. This french toast is a very popular tradition in Canada and the US.

An almost the same variety called Ponche Crema from Venezuela and Trinidad is also a popular beverage for the Christmas season.

Leftover eggnogs are then used to make these french toasts. That’s why these eggnog french toast usually appears during and after the Christmas season.

What are the Eggnog French Toasts made of?

Like any other french toast, sliced bread is used. Any bread will do. It just needs to be sliced with just enough thickness if you prefer to buy whole bread instead of already sliced ones.

Then, of course, the eggnog. There is commercial eggnog available in groceries and supermarkets. But you can make one at home. It’s very easy. I prepared my eggnog using an instant pot.

A couple of eggs, too. I prefer to use brown sugar to sweeten it. For more flavor, cinnamon and nutmeg are included in the ingredients. They are mixed all together with the eggnog.

The best part is cooking the soaked bread with butter.

I love the aroma they created while cooking the french toast! I always can’t resist when I cook it. The first one that I made is always gone almost immediately! Well, I just need to taste it if they are good before serving the rest.

To round it off, the ingredients that are needed here are:

  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 Tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 Tsp nutmeg
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 4 Tbsp butter

And this is how you make them:

In a bowl whisk the eggnog with the eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg, and brown sugar until everything is well incorporated.

Heat 1 Tbsp butter in a large skillet over medium heat.

Dip 2 slices of bread into the egg mixture, making sure they are completely coated. Transfer to the hot skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side or until brown.

Repeat the process with the rest of the bread.

Can I store leftovers?

Of course, you can!

Make sure they are completely cool. Then put them in a freezer-safe bag or container and freeze. They’re good for up to 3 months in the freezer.

Can I prep the eggnog french toast ahead?

Certainly!

It is best for an overnight prep and then cooking them in the morning. Prepare everything. Place the batter in a pan, then soak the bread. Cover the pan with plastic wrap and refrigerate. Fry the toast in butter in the morning.

Just handle the bread carefully as they are too soft and delicate already. I like to do this on my leftover bread.

How to keep the toasts warm until it’s time to serve them?

After last night’s celebration, you are not sure what time your family will come down for breakfast. Here is what you can do so you can start cooking while they are still asleep, and serve the eggnog french toast later and still warm

When you are about to start frying the toasts, preheat your oven to  250°F. Place a wire rack on a baking sheet, and place them in the oven. Start cooking the french toasts. Once cooked, transfer each toast on the rack to ensure that all of them are kept warm and fresh until they are served.
